For its 25th anniversary, ABC announced that their Wonderful World of Disney will be reuniting the cast of 1997s live-action adaptation of Cinderella, starring Brandy Norwood as the titular. The special will explore how the original film’s diverse casting influenced representation in Hollywood via interviews with figures such as Billy Porter, who played the fairy godmother in a version of “Cinderella” from last year, “Beauty and the Beast” stage actor Jade Jones and singer Todrick Hall. Brandy, Paolo Montalban, and other members of the cast will join the reunion special. In addition to reuniting the original cast, the “20/20” special will also feature behind-the-scenes footage with the late Houston and interviews with producers Debra Martin Chase and Neil Meron and costume designer Ellen Mirojnick. For many, when asked to picture Cinderella, the first image that will race to mind will be the character from Disneys 1950 animated film of the same name. Brandy showed TikTok followers that reprising the titular role in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella after more than 20 years is far from impossible.
